Jim James, the lead singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist of My Morning Jacket brings his inspirational talent to our TEDx event in Reno on January 27, 2018. Joining Jim James for this daylong Reno event at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center are eighteen speakers and two other performers, Allen Stone and Troi Irons.
TEDxUniversityofNevada is an independently organized TED like event, where TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Before Jim James takes the stage in Reno after lunch the afternoon of the event, the live audience of 1300 will have already experienced twelve speakers and two performers. James will open the final session of the day with an eighteen-minute set of three songs, with a short “ideas worth spreading” talk between songs.
Another unique about Jim James’s performance is that it will be recorded in high quality audio and video and posted to TEDx Talks sometime in February 2018. Watch his performance live and then enjoy it over and over again once we posted it online. The videos of the twenty-two TEDx talks from TEDxUniversityofNevada 2017 have already been viewed a cumulative 10.4 million times in just ten months!
In addition to the seven albums Jim James has done with My Morning Jacket, he has also done some solo work. His most recent solo album, Eternally Even, was released in 2016. Jason Heller of NPR Music says of James’ Eternally Even “Consummate singer-songwriter that he is, though, he’s spun that into another batch of arresting, soulful and, at times, transcendent tunes.”
We will open doors to the event at 8 am, Saturday, January 27, 2018. It’s general admission seating so if you want a front row seat to see Jim James, make sure to arrive early. The first session starts at 9 am and feature six speakers, including a talk by Sharyl Attkisson from her new book about fake news, and a talk by Cara Brookins from her book about how she and her four children learned how to build their house by watching YouTube videos. The first session closes with a performance by newcomer Troi Irons.
Following a twenty-minute break with refreshments provided, session 2 will feature 5 more speakers, including a talk by Christine Porath from her timely book on how to treat others with civility and respect at work. Session 2 closes with a performance by Allen Stone. After a lunch break with food provided, Jim James opens session 3 with his performance and talk. He will be followed by seven speakers, including a talk by David Burkus from his new book on how to improved your networking with others. Immediately following the conclusion of the program we will host a brief after party where audience members will have a chance to meet our speakers and performers.
The general admission ticket price is $100 and includes all speakers and performers as well as lunch and a morning break. Purchase 8 or more tickets at one time and you will receive our group discount rate of $90 per ticket. Students can purchase tickets for $30 by visiting the Wolf Shop on the University of Nevada campus or by emailing Bret Simmons at firstname.lastname@example.org.
