Tony Slonim, M.D., DrPH, FACHE, is the president and CEO of Renown Health— the region’s largest, not-for-profit health system serving Nevada, Lake Tahoe and the eastern Sierra. Dr. Slonim is a national expert in patient safety, accountable care, healthcare quality and innovative care delivery models focused on improving health outcomes across the community. He is the first physician in the U.S. to be quadruple board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine Critical Care and Pediatric Critical Care and has more than 100 publications and 15 textbooks to his name.
Since joining Renown Health in July 2014, Dr. Slonim launched a five-year strategic plan focused on the community’s overall health. He put Nevada in the national spotlight by launching one of the nation’s first community-based, population health genetics study in partnership with Desert Research Institute; expanding northern Nevada’s access to specialized care services in collaboration with Stanford Health and Stanford Children’s Health; and advocating for a state that is pivotal to the healthcare reform debate and particularly vulnerable to its outcomes.
Dr. Slonim also serves as the inaugural editor-in-chief of Physician Leadership Journal and is the 2019 Chair for the American Hospital Association’s Health Systems Board representing the more than 300 integrated health systems in the country. His children inspired him to embrace Twitter as @RenownCEOTonyMD, and his interest in engaging with others online gave rise to his blog, A Healthy Perspective.
