What is TEDx? The Origins of TEDxUniversityofNevada
TEDxUniversityofNevada is like other TEDx events in that it directly associates itself with TED and commits itself to the spirit of ideas worth spreading. Since our first TEDxUniversityofNevada event (held on January 25, 2013 in the Joe Crowley Student Union at the The University of Nevada, Reno), our speakers and participants have shared and discussed numerous compelling ideas worth spreading. TEDx events carry on the spirit and overall format of a normal TED event, but they showcase local thinkers and speakers from the community. Each TEDx event is local and independently organized. Since our first event we have held a second and third TEDx event in the Joe Crowley Student Union (January 24, 2014 and January 23, 2015). We recorded significant attendance and participation. Since then, attendance and participation have risen significantly to 1200 people at our fourth event (held at the Pioneer Theater on January 23, 2016) and again on January 21, 2017 at our most recent Tedx event – with a record 1300 attendees present at the Grand Sierra Resort.
What is TEDx? TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxUniversityofNevada, where “x” denotes an independently organized TED event. At our TEDxUniversityofNevada event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
